A rare English ironstone Indian regimental plate (Duke of Wellington interest). Circa 1804/5.

A very rare early 19th century English  (possibly Hicks & Meigh) dinner plate.

Decorated with an elaborate floral trellis border and a central medallion of an elephant and the banner of the Seventh Madras Cavalry..ASSAYE.

This was Arthur Wellesley's (later to become the Duke of Wellington) first victory on the battlefield and one he would later describe as his finest accomplishment. The seventh Madras cavalry were one of 3 native cavalry regiments who participated in the battle.
